| Data from EPIC -
Access to data |
| |
EPIC co-ordinates access to the data in a
number of ways: |
Providing datasets for organisations to conduct their
own research.
Raw datasets can be provided on hard-drives,
tapes & CDs depending on data size and researcher
preferences. Access to these datasets can be either
through a full sub-licence to the updated data or via a
research agreement for to project-specific subsets. |
Carrying out programming for researchers
We can provide processed datasets which can
include summaries of data for statistical analysis, in accordance with study protocols. |
Helping
obtain primary, secondary and lifestyle data directly
from GPs and patients
Our partner company Additional Information
Services (AIS) can develop questionnaires for doctors
and provide anonymised hospital discharge summaries,
examination results and other non-electronic GP
records. |
Depending on the requirements and resources of researchers,
data may be provided in various forms:
The raw data are usually supplied as flat ASCII text files
which can be loaded or imported into virtually any
database/statistical application. Processed datasets can be
supplied as flat ASCII text files, MS Excel spread sheets or
SAS datasets.
Examples of applications which have been used to manipulate
the data are Oracle, SQL, SPSS, SAS and Microsoft Access. Note
that there are limitations with Access as the application
needs to be case sensitive. Alternatively the data can be
stored as flat files and queried using any appropriate
programming language. |
