EPIC can
provide access to anonymised longitudinal patient records from
THIN and international patient data via
CSD Medical Research.
THIN Data are collected directly from practice management
software on a regular basis without interruption to the
running of the GP‘s system. The data are processed to provide
researchers with access to full, coded demographic, medical
and prescription details at individual patient level. In
addition, there is information on referral to specialists,
diagnostics and laboratory results, and some lifestyle
characteristics. The data are organised in files by individual
practice and provide a longitudinal record from each patient.
International patient data are available from France, Italy,
Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic and Australia with Korea and
Spain recently launched in 2008. Work is being undertaken to
calibrate data quality and in collating information on the
health systems in each country. Additional information can be
made available though study specific data screens. Specialist
medical data is also available in France for cardiologists,
gastroenterologists, gynaecologists, neurologists,
paediatricians, psychiatrists and rheumatologists.
